Click to expand Replay Video SETTINGS OFF HD HQ SD LO UP NEXT ARNOLD, Md.—Getting Danny, a slight boy with a bowl cut and big brown eyes, became Nila Serrano’s mission one month ago, after a 5 a.m. phone call.  An official saying he was with a U.S. Border Patrol “processing center” told her that authorities had detained her 27-year-old sister-in-law, Delsy Guadalupe “Lupe” Serrano Torres, and Lupe’s 8-year-old son Danny. Mother and son had illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near El Paso, Texas, following a trek from their native Honduras. Lupe requested asylum. Numb to outrage, GOP voters feel deepening bond to Trump

© Jonathan Ernst President Donald Trump holds a rally with supporters in Duluth, Minnesota, on June 20, 2018. LEESBURG, Va. — Gina Anders knows the feeling well by now. President Trump says or does something that triggers a spasm of outrage. She doesn’t necessarily agree with how he handled the situation. She gets why people are upset. But Ms. Anders, 46, a Republican from suburban Loudoun County, Va., with a law degree, a business career, and not a stitch of “Make America Great Again” gear in her wardrobe, is moved to defend him anyway. “All nuance and all complexity — and these are complex issues — are completely lost,” she said, describing “overblown” reactions from the president’s critics, some of whom equated the Trump administration’s policy of separating migrant children and parents...

Canes get Hamilton in 5-player deal with Flames

2:59 PM ET Greg WyshynskiESPN DALLAS — After a quiet first round to the NHL draft, business picked up Saturday, thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes and Calgary Flames. The Flames sent defenseman Dougie Hamilton, NCAA defenseman Adam Fox and left wing Micheal Ferland to the Hurricanes for center Elias Lindholm and defenseman Noah Hanifin, both of whom are restricted free agents. An extra layer of intrigue in this trade: Bill Peters was hired by the Flames as head coach after being fired by the Hurricanes after the season. So he knows Hanifin and Lindholm quite well. This is the second time in three years that Hamilton, 25, has been traded at the NHL draft. He was acquired by the Flames from the Boston Bruins in 2015 for three draft picks. In 245 games with Calgary, Hamilton had 42 goals...

Trump says Obama kept migrants ‘wrapped in foil’ in cages: ‘We do a much better job’

President Donald Trump, is apparently trying to deflect criticism of his administration’s separating more than 2,000 migrant children from their parents by suggesting that former President Obama did worse. Trump tweeted Saturday morning that President Obama kept immigrants “in cages, wrapped in foil,” pushing a Drudge Report headline that linked to an article that ran in The Daily Caller, a conservative media outlet. The Daily Caller article was posted on Tuesday, when public outrage over the family separations was at a height. On Wednesday, the president signed an executive order to end the policy and keep migrant parents and children together. The Obama administration also used detention facilities for migrants who crossed the border illegally but it did not engage in w...

Sarah Sanders says she was thrown out of Virginia restaurant because she works for Trump

White House Press Secretary Sanders was thrown out of a Virginia restaurant on Friday because she works for President Trump — the latest Trump official to be hounded out of a restaurant because of their political affiliation. TMZ reported that she was kicked out of the restaurant — The Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia — on “moral grounds” and cited a waiter who said that Sanders was served “for a total of two minutes before my owner kicked her out along with seven of her other family members.” Sanders confirmed the events on Twitter, saying she was told to leave by the owner because she worked for the president. “Her actions say far more about her than about me,” she said. “I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue ...

There was no cause of death given. Paul started Pantera in 1981 with his brother, “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott – the pair were sons to the country-western producer Jerry Abbott. The band had a number one album in 1994 and earned four Grammy nominations, but disbanded in 2003 amid rumours of a rift. Italy migrant row: Malta defiant over stranded rescue boat

Image copyright Reuters Image caption Around 230 migrants were rescued by German ship Lifeline on Thursday Italy has no right to ask Malta to accept the stranded migrant rescue ship Lifeline, according to Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said that Malta should take in the 226 migrants and arrest the crew. But the Maltese leader responded defiantly, saying: “We’re a sovereign country and nobody should dictate what we can and cannot do”. A similar case earlier this month led Spain to accept 630 migrants. Both Italy and Malta refused to allow the migrant rescue ship Aquarius to dock in the previous incident, before the Spanish port of Valencia intervened. Where is the Lifeline? Report: US Open to factor pregnancy in seeding

2:39 PM ET The US Open will begin taking pregnancy into account when determining women’s seeding, according to a report by the New York Times. United States Tennis Association president Katrina Adams told the Times that players returning from pregnancy shouldn’t be “penalized” for having a family: “It’s the right thing to do for these mothers that are coming back.” The move comes after criticism that was levied at the USTA for its handling of the seeding of Serena Williams at last month’s French Open. Williams, who gave birth to her daughter in September, was unseeded (and went on to defeat two seeded players before exiting the tournament with a pectoral injury) in part because of time she spent not competing because of her pregnancy, which s...

Ex-Bears football player indicted for assaulting deputy

A former Chicago Bears and Ohio State University football player who authorities say was ordered to leave a bar because he was intoxicated and stumbling has been indicted for allegedly slamming an Ohio sheriff’s deputy arm with a van door. Thirty-four-year-old Kirk Barton, of Dublin, was indicted Friday in central Ohio’s Delaware County on assault and obstructing official business charges. Both are felony charges. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has said the deputy escorted the 6-foot-6-inch Barton outside the bar to a taxi earlier this month without incident but that Barton couldn’t provide his address. While the deputy and taxi driver determined where he lived, Barton allegedly slammed the van’s sliding door on the deputy’s arm. Barton’s att...
