It seems that barely a month goes by without the announcement of a special-edition Ram 1500 pickup. Following up on the ultrafancy Limited Tungsten and the farming-themed Harvest is the new 2018 Ram 1500 Hydro Blue Sport. Although it sounds like a product that moisturizes and refreshes, it is in reality yet another color-themed appearance package in the vein of the previous Sublime Green, Sport Copper, and Ignition Orange versions.
Like those, the Hydro Blue is based on the Sport trim level, which means it’s about midpack in Ram’s dizzying array of models: above the Tradesman, Express, Lone Star, Lone Star Silver, Harvest, and Big Horn but below the Night, Laramie, Rebel, Longhorn, and Limited.
The Hydro Blue Sport is offered only as a crew-cab, short-box truck with rear- or four-wheel drive. A 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 steps in for the Sport’s standard V-6, but mostly this package gives buyers the blues. The monochrome exterior features a blue-painted grille, front and rear bumpers, side mirrors, and door handles. The hood, grille inserts, and badging are black, and dark-tinted headlight bezels and taillights complete the look. The black and blue color scheme continues inside, with blue stitched accents on the seats, door panels, steering wheel, and instrument panel. Blue trim adorns the center console, doors, and dashboard. The Hydro Blue Sport 4×2 rolls on 22-inch wheels, while the 4×4 gets 20-inchers.
Although it’s not a Limited, Hydro Blue Sport production will be limited to 2000 units. (Production of actual Ram 1500 Limited models is, presumably, not limited.)
The Hydro Blue Sport starts at $47,455, which is $3315 more than the not-so-blue 1500 Sport with the 5.7-liter option. For those ready to take the plunge, the Blue Hydro Sport is available starting this month.
