Latin Grammys 2018: Why Luis Miguel Won Big and J Balvin Won Only One Award

Now that we’ve recovered from Latin Grammy week, we can look back dispassionately at an awards show that featured some beautiful performances and some unexpected results, notably Luis Miguel’s album of the year win and J Balvin’s record of the year loss.  First, Luis Miguel. The Mexican crooner/superstar was awarded album of the year for ¡México por Siempre!, which also won in the best ranchero/mariachi album category. The win in the second category, announced in the pre-telecast, was observed with barely a ripple. But album of the year, perhaps the most important award of the evening and announced toward the end of the live telecast, resulted in loud boos from the audience. It was impossible to say if the boos were a result of Luis Miguel not being there to accept the award or at the Mexi...

‘SNL’ Cold Open Trolls Mark Zuckerberg and Fox News: Watch

Kate McKinnon reprised her frequent impression of Fox News host Laura Ingraham in the cold open on Saturday Night Live, interviewing guests like Mark Zuckerberg, as played by Alex Moffat. Moffat’s Zuckerberg was disturbingly robotic when discussing issues of privacy and Facebook, having to remind himself to blink. “I can’t be any more transparent—have you seen my skin?” Moffat’s Zuckerberg asked with a chilling laugh, adding, “I think the problem is when I do bad things, I get money. What? Dab!” It was a rough week for the Facebook CEO, who did damage control over a N.Y. Times exposé, that revealed, among other things, how the social networking giant pushed back against criticism over its handling of data privacy and Russian manipulation of its platform. McKinnon’s Ingraham als...

Watch Pete Davidson Rap About Ruth Bader Ginsburg in ‘SNL’ Music Video

Pete Davidson and Chris Redd did another one of their rap parody videos on Saturday Night Live tonight, performing a song all about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. McKinnon, who has played the Supreme Court justice in “Weekend Update” bits several times before, reprised her impression for the music video. Ginsburg made news earlier this month after fracturing three ribs in a fall. “You think some broken ribs are going to keep her down?” Redd asked at the beginning of the video. “Hell no, and hell no.” “Live Ginsburg, and I ride for Ginsburg,” the song’s hook declared. It also included multiple references to Ginsburg’s Brooklyn roots. A biopic starring Felicity Jones as Ginsberg called On The Basis Of Sex premiered this month, and a documentary about the Supreme Court pioneer’s life called RBG aired o...
