Rita Ora, Liam Payne and Jason Derulo will perform at the April 12 event.
Ed Sheeran, Luis Fonsi and Bausa lead the nominations for this year’s ECHO Awards, Germany’s version of the Grammys. Sheeran is the most decorated artist with four nods, followed by German rapper Bausa and “Despacito” hitmaker Fonsi with three apiece.
The slate of international nominees also includes Taylor Swift, Depeche Mode, Imagine Dragons and Dua Lipa, while German acts include Mark Forster, the Kelly Family, Wincent Weiss, Kraftklub, Alice Merton, Die Toten Hosen and Die Kastelruther Spatzen, among others.
This year’s show will take place on April 12 at Messe Berlin and be broadcast live on the private station VOX. Rita Ora will take to the stage both as a solo artist and in a duet with Liam Payne. Jason Derulo, whose “Colors” will be the official song of this summer’s World Cup, is nominated for an ECHO and will also perform live. Germany’s ECHO queen, Helene Fischer (16 awards), will also grace the stage.
Rebecka Heinz, new managing director of the awards, said: “A quick glance at the shortlist gives us a clue as to who’s had the deepest impact on pop audiences in the past 12 months in Germany. Now it’s up to the jury! We’re very much looking forward to collecting their votes and enjoying another exciting and terrific night at the ECHO in Berlin.”
The ECHO awards are presented by industry body Deutsche Phono-Akademie, which acts as the cultural arm of Germany’s Federal Music Industry Association (BVMI). Each year, the awards honor the most outstanding and successful recordings and performances by national and international artists. This year, the ECHO will be handed out in 22 categories. ECHO winners are determined in equal part by chart success and a final vote of the ECHO jury.
