Blake Shelton took time away from his duties as Sexiest Man Alive to play his other role as a country singer. Shelton performed “I’ll Name the Dogs” for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which will air on today’s (Dec. 4) episode.
“It’s not every day that we get to have the reigning Sexiest Man Alive on our show twice in one month,” DeGeneres told her audience (and the camera) while introducing Shelton. The audience lost their minds as walls slid open to reveal Shelton standing with his guitar and band.
The single — off of his new album Texoma Shore, which dropped in November — finds Shelton singing about compromise (and likely about his girlfriend, Gwen Stefani): “I’ll hang the pictures, you hang the stars / You pick the paint, I’ll pick a guitar / Sing you a song out there with the crickets and frogs / You name the babies and I’ll name the dogs.”
Throughout the performance, Shelton remained mostly stoic in front of his microphone except for when he really launched into playing his guitar. After the performance, DeGeneres walked to Shelton’s side and yelled (over the crowd), “So much sexier. Even sexier than last time! … Listen, he was just here a couple weeks ago. He’s even sexier today.” Shelton, who hasn’t been taking his new title seriously, couldn’t help but laugh.
